صعّد وزير الحرب الأمريكي بيت هيغسيث لهجته تجاه إيران، متوعداً إياها بدفع الثمن بعد أن «اتخذت خياراً خاطئاً»، عقب إعلان القيادة المركزية الأمريكية انتهاء الجولة الثالثة من الضربات الجوية التي استهدفت مواقع عسكرية إيرانية رداً على الهجمات التي طالت سفناً تجارية في مضيق هرمز.

وكتب هيغسيث عبر منصة «إكس»: «إيران اتخذت خياراً سيئاً، والآن تدفع الثمن»، في تعليق مقتضب أرفقه بإعلان القيادة المركزية «سنتكوم» بشأن العملية العسكرية الأخيرة، التي جاءت بتوجيه من الرئيس دونالد ترمب.

وبحسب بيان «سنتكوم»، استهدفت القوات الأمريكية نحو 140 هدفاً عسكرياً داخل إيران باستخدام مقاتلات وسفن حربية وطائرات مسيّرة، شملت مواقع لإطلاق الصواريخ والطائرات المسيّرة، ومستودعات ذخيرة، وشبكات اتصالات، ومنشآت للمراقبة الساحلية، ضمن ما وصفته واشنطن بجهود تقويض قدرة إيران على استهداف الملاحة التجارية في مضيق هرمز.

وأضافت القيادة المركزية أن الضربات الأخيرة رفعت إجمالي الأهداف التي قصفتها القوات الأمريكية خلال ثلاث موجات هذا الأسبوع إلى أكثر من 300 هدف عسكري، مؤكدة أن العمليات جاءت بعد الهجوم الذي تعرضت له سفينة الحاويات «إم/في جي إف إس غالاكسي» التي ترفع علم قبرص أثناء عبورها المضيق.

وأكدت واشنطن أن الهجوم الإيراني تسبب بأضرار جسيمة في غرفة محركات السفينة، إضافة إلى فقدان أحد أفراد طاقمها المدني، معتبرة أن استهداف السفن التجارية يمثل تهديداً مباشراً لحرية الملاحة الدولية.

وأفادت «سنتكوم» بأن حركة الملاحة في مضيق هرمز لا تزال مستمرة رغم التصعيد، مشيرة إلى أن القوات الأمريكية ساهمت منذ أوائل مايو في تأمين عبور أكثر من 800 سفينة تجارية ونحو 400 مليون برميل من النفط الخام عبر الممر البحري الحيوي.

في المقابل، واصلت إيران التصعيد واستهدفت بالهجمات الصاروخية والطائرات المسيّرة قطر والبحرين والكويت والإمارات.

وصعّد رئيس البرلمان الإيراني وكبير المفاوضين محمد باقر قاليباف لهجته، قائلاً إن «زمن الاتفاقات الأحادية انتهى»، مضيفاً: «قلنا لكم أوفوا بوعودكم أو ادفعوا الثمن».

ويأتي هذا التصعيد بعد أيام من إعلان الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب انتهاء مذكرة التفاهم المؤقتة مع إيران، واتهام طهران بانتهاك التزاماتها عبر استهداف السفن التجارية وإغلاق مضيق هرمز، الذي يمر عبره نحو خُمس تجارة النفط العالمية.

ومع استمرار الضربات المتبادلة واتساع نطاقها، تتزايد المخاوف من انزلاق المنطقة إلى مواجهة أوسع، في وقت تبدو فيه فرص استئناف المفاوضات بين واشنطن وطهران أكثر تعقيداً، وسط تمسّك كل طرف بمواقفه وتصاعد الرسائل العسكرية المتبادلة.

The U.S. Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, escalated his rhetoric against Iran, threatening it with consequences after it "made a wrong choice," following the announcement by the U.S. Central Command of the conclusion of the third round of airstrikes targeting Iranian military sites in response to attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Hegseth wrote on the platform "X": "Iran made a bad choice, and now it is paying the price," in a brief comment accompanied by the Central Command's announcement regarding the recent military operation, which was directed by President Donald Trump.

According to the "Centcom" statement, U.S. forces targeted about 140 military sites within Iran using fighter jets, warships, and drones, including missile and drone launch sites, ammunition depots, communication networks, and coastal surveillance facilities, as part of what Washington described as efforts to undermine Iran's ability to target commercial navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Central Command added that the recent strikes raised the total number of targets bombed by U.S. forces during three waves this week to over 300 military targets, confirming that the operations came after the attack on the container ship "MV GFS Galaxy," which flies the flag of Cyprus, while transiting the strait.

Washington confirmed that the Iranian attack caused significant damage to the ship's engine room, in addition to the loss of one of its civilian crew members, considering that targeting commercial vessels represents a direct threat to international navigation freedom.

Centcom reported that navigation in the Strait of Hormuz continues despite the escalation, noting that U.S. forces have helped secure the passage of more than 800 commercial vessels and nearly 400 million barrels of crude oil through the vital maritime corridor since early May.

In contrast, Iran continued its escalation and targeted Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the UAE with missile and drone attacks.

The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament and chief negotiator, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, intensified his rhetoric, stating that "the era of unilateral agreements is over," adding: "We told you to fulfill your promises or pay the price."

This escalation comes days after U.S. President Donald Trump announced the end of the temporary memorandum of understanding with Iran and accused Tehran of violating its commitments by targeting commercial vessels and closing the Strait of Hormuz, through which about one-fifth of global oil trade passes.

As mutual strikes continue and expand, fears are increasing that the region may slip into a wider confrontation, at a time when the prospects for resuming negotiations between Washington and Tehran seem more complicated, amid both sides' insistence on their positions and the escalation of mutual military messages.
