بدأت الصيدليات البريطانية إتاحة دواء فموي جديد يُستخدم للمساعدة على إنقاص الوزن وتحسين السيطرة على مرض السكري من النوع الثاني، في خطوة توفر خياراً علاجياً جديداً للأشخاص الذين لا يستطيعون استخدام أدوية إنقاص الوزن القابلة للحقن أو لا يرغبون في استخدامها.
الدواء، الذي يحمل الاسم التجاري «فوندایو» (Foundayo) ويحتوي على المادة الفعالة أورفورغليبرون (orforglipron)، تنتجه شركة أدوية أمريكية، بحسب صحيفة Mirror البريطانية.
وكانت هيئة تنظيم الأدوية ومنتجات الرعاية الصحية البريطانية، منحته الترخيص في 10 أغسطس 2026، لتصبح المملكة المتحدة أول دولة أوروبية تجيز استخدامه لإنقاص الوزن وعلاج السكري من النوع الثاني.
خيار جديد لمن لا يرغبون في الحقن
وينتمي أورفورغليبرون إلى فئة أدوية GLP-1، وهي أدوية تحاكي تأثير هرمون طبيعي يفرزه الجسم بعد تناول الطعام، وتعمل على مناطق في الدماغ مرتبطة بتنظيم الشهية، بما يساعد على زيادة الإحساس بالشبع وتقليل الجوع والرغبة في تناول الطعام.
وتبرز أهمية الدواء بالنسبة للمرضى الذين يجدون صعوبة في استخدام علاجات إنقاص الوزن عن طريق الحقن، إذ يوفر خياراً يؤخذ عن طريق الفم مرة واحدة يومياً.
وقال الرئيس التنفيذي للجمعية الوطنية للصيدلة في بريطانيا، هنري غريغ، إن إتاحة الدواء تمثل تطوراً مهماً للمرضى الذين لا يستطيعون أو لا يرغبون في استخدام العلاجات القابلة للحقن، وقد توسع نطاق الأشخاص القادرين على الوصول إلى علاجات إنقاص الوزن.
من هم المؤهلون لاستخدام الدواء؟
وبحسب الترخيص البريطاني، يمكن استخدام أورفورغليبرون للمساعدة على إنقاص الوزن والمحافظة عليه لدى البالغين الذين يبلغ مؤشر كتلة الجسم لديهم 30 أو أكثر، أو لدى من يتراوح مؤشر كتلة الجسم لديهم بين 27 و30 مع وجود حالة صحية واحدة على الأقل مرتبطة بالوزن.
كما جرى ترخيص الدواء لتحسين السيطرة على مستويات السكر لدى مرضى السكري من النوع الثاني الذين لا تكون حالتهم مضبوطة بالشكل الكافي.
ويُستخدم الدواء إلى جانب اتباع نظام غذائي منخفض السعرات وزيادة النشاط البدني.
جرعات متدرجة
ويؤخذ «فوندایو» مرة واحدة يومياً، ويمكن تناوله في أي وقت من اليوم، دون قيود مرتبطة بالطعام أو الماء.
ويبدأ العلاج بجرعة 0.8 ملغ، ثم ترتفع الجرعة تدريجياً إلى 2.5 ملغ، و5.5 ملغ، و9 ملغ، و14.5 ملغ، وصولاً إلى 17.2 ملغ، مع قضاء مدة لا تقل عن شهر في كل مستوى من مستويات الجرعة، وفق تعليمات الهيئة البريطانية.
بريطانيا أول دولة أوروبية ترخص الدواء
وأكدت هيئة تنظيم الأدوية ومنتجات الرعاية الصحية البريطانية، أن المملكة المتحدة أصبحت أول دولة في أوروبا ترخص أورفورغليبرون لعلاج السمنة وإدارة الوزن والسكري من النوع الثاني.
وشددت الهيئة على أن الدواء يُصرف بوصفة طبية فقط، وأن سلامته وفعاليته ستظلان موضع متابعة ومراجعة مستمرة، شأنه شأن جميع أدوية GLP-1.
وتعمل شركة «إيلي ليلي» الأمريكية المنتجة للعلاج أيضاً مع المعهد الوطني البريطاني للصحة والرعاية الممتازة لتقييم الدواء، تمهيداً لاتخاذ قرار بشأن إمكانية طرحه ضمن خدمات هيئة الخدمات الصحية الوطنية في إنجلترا.
تحذير من الحبوب المقلدة
وبالتزامن مع طرح الدواء، حذر خبراء الصيدلة من انتشار نسخ مزيفة أو غير مرخصة أو مقلدة من أدوية GLP-1 الفموية.
ويرى القطاع الصيدلي أن الأدوية الفموية قد تكون أكثر عرضة للتقليد والتداول غير القانوني مقارنة بالعلاجات القابلة للحقن، داعياً المرضى إلى الحصول على أدوية إنقاص الوزن حصراً من الصيدليات الآمنة والخاضعة للرقابة.
ويأتي التحذير في ظل تشديد الجهات البريطانية على مكافحة الترويج غير القانوني لأدوية إنقاص الوزن، إذ تواصل هيئة تنظيم الأدوية ومنتجات الرعاية الصحية البريطانية، التحقيق في الإعلانات والمواقع التي تروج لأدوية أو خدمات علاجية غير متوافقة مع القواعد التنظيمية.
منافسة متزايدة في سوق أدوية إنقاص الوزن
ويأتي طرح «فوندایو» في وقت يشهد فيه سوق أدوية السمنة تطوراً سريعاً، مع انتقال المنافسة تدريجياً من العلاجات القابلة للحقن إلى خيارات فموية قد تكون أكثر سهولة بالنسبة لبعض المرضى.
ومع ذلك، فإن إتاحة الدواء في الصيدليات البريطانية لا تعني تلقائياً إدراجه ضمن العلاج الممول من هيئة الخدمات الصحية الوطنية في إنجلترا، إذ لا يزال تقييمه من جانب المعهد الوطني البريطاني للصحة والرعاية الممتازة، خطوة منفصلة لتحديد مدى ملاءمته للاستخدام على نطاق واسع ضمن النظام الصحي.
وتؤكد هيئة تنظيم الأدوية ومنتجات الرعاية الصحية البريطانية، أن اعتماد الدواء جاء بعد تقييم لسلامته وجودته وفعاليته، مع استمرار المراقبة التنظيمية بعد طرحه في السوق.
British pharmacies have started making a new oral medication available that is used to aid weight loss and improve control of type 2 diabetes, in a move that provides a new treatment option for individuals who cannot or do not wish to use injectable weight loss medications.
The medication, marketed under the brand name "Foundayo" and containing the active ingredient orforglipron, is produced by an American pharmaceutical company, according to the British newspaper Mirror.
The UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency granted it a license on August 10, 2026, making the United Kingdom the first European country to approve its use for weight loss and the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
A New Option for Those Who Do Not Want Injections
Orforglipron belongs to the GLP-1 medication class, which mimics the effect of a natural hormone released by the body after eating. It works on areas of the brain associated with appetite regulation, helping to increase feelings of fullness and reduce hunger and cravings for food.
The importance of the medication is highlighted for patients who find it difficult to use injectable weight loss treatments, as it provides an option taken orally once a day.
Henry Grigg, the CEO of the National Pharmacy Association in the UK, stated that the availability of the medication represents an important development for patients who cannot or do not wish to use injectable treatments, expanding the range of individuals able to access weight loss therapies.
Who is Eligible to Use the Medication?
According to the British license, orforglipron can be used to assist with weight loss and maintenance in adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more, or in those with a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related health condition.
The medication has also been licensed to improve blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes patients whose condition is not adequately managed.
The medication is used alongside a low-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
Gradual Dosing
Foundayo is taken once daily and can be consumed at any time of the day, without restrictions related to food or water.
Treatment begins with a dose of 0.8 mg, then gradually increases to 2.5 mg, 5.5 mg, 9 mg, 14.5 mg, and up to 17.2 mg, with a minimum of one month spent at each dose level, according to the British agency's guidelines.
The UK is the First European Country to License the Medication
The UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency confirmed that the United Kingdom has become the first country in Europe to license orforglipron for the treatment of obesity and the management of weight and type 2 diabetes.
The agency emphasized that the medication is dispensed only by prescription and that its safety and efficacy will remain under continuous monitoring and review, like all GLP-1 medications.
The American company Eli Lilly, which produces the treatment, is also working with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence to evaluate the medication, in preparation for a decision regarding its potential inclusion in the services of the National Health Service in England.
Warning About Counterfeit Pills
Alongside the launch of the medication, pharmacy experts have warned about the spread of fake, unlicensed, or counterfeit versions of oral GLP-1 medications.
The pharmacy sector believes that oral medications may be more susceptible to counterfeiting and illegal trade compared to injectable treatments, urging patients to obtain weight loss medications exclusively from safe and regulated pharmacies.
This warning comes amid increased efforts by British authorities to combat the illegal promotion of weight loss medications, as the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency continues to investigate advertisements and websites promoting medications or therapeutic services that do not comply with regulatory standards.
Increasing Competition in the Weight Loss Medication Market
The launch of Foundayo comes at a time when the obesity medication market is rapidly evolving, with competition gradually shifting from injectable treatments to oral options that may be more convenient for some patients.
However, the availability of the medication in British pharmacies does not automatically mean it will be included in the treatment funded by the National Health Service in England, as its evaluation by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence remains a separate step to determine its suitability for widespread use within the healthcare system.
The UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency confirms that the approval of the medication came after an assessment of its safety, quality, and efficacy, with ongoing regulatory monitoring following its market launch.
