أعرب الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب عن أسفه لمقتل جنديين أمريكيين في الأردن، واصفاً الحادثة بأنها «محزنة للغاية»، في أول تعليق له منذ إعلان الجيش الأمريكي وقوع الخسائر. وقال ترمب في مقابلة مع قناة «نيوز نيشن»: «نأسف لما يحدث، فقد ضحوا بحياتهم في خدمة وطنهم».

ويأتي هذا التصريح في وقت لم يصدر ترمب بياناً رسمياً بشأن الحادث، إذ أمضى أمس (السبت) في منزله بمدينة بيدمينستر بولاية نيوجيرسي، مكتفياً بتصريحاته الإعلامية.

وفي السياق ذاته، جدّد ترمب موقفه المتشدد تجاه إيران، مؤكداً أن منعها من امتلاك سلاح نووي «واجب» يقع على عاتق الولايات المتحدة، مضيفاً أن عدم رغبة طهران في الالتزام بمذكرة التفاهم «لم يعد يعني له شيئاً».

وكان الجيش الأمريكي قد أعلن، أمس، مقتل جنديين وفقدان ثالث في الأردن، في أول خسائر بشرية تتكبدها القوات الأمريكية منذ اندلاع المواجهة العسكرية مع إيران في مارس الماضي، ما يسلّط الضوء على تصاعد حدة التوتر بين الجانبين.

Trump said in an interview with "News Nation": "We are sorry for what is happening; they sacrificed their lives in service to their country."

This statement comes at a time when Trump has not issued an official statement regarding the incident, as he spent yesterday (Saturday) at his home in Bedminster, New Jersey, limiting himself to media remarks.

In the same context, Trump reiterated his hardline stance towards Iran, asserting that preventing it from acquiring nuclear weapons is a "duty" that falls on the United States, adding that Tehran's unwillingness to adhere to the memorandum of understanding "no longer means anything to him."

The U.S. military announced yesterday the deaths of two soldiers and the disappearance of a third in Jordan, marking the first human losses suffered by U.S. forces since the outbreak of military confrontation with Iran last March, highlighting the escalating tension between the two sides.
