أعلن قائد منتخب الجزائر رياض محرز، ولاعب النادي الأهلي السعودي، اعتزاله اللعب الدولي، بعد خروج منتخب بلاده من مونديال كأس العالم 2026، إثر خسارته من نظيره المنتخب السويسري بنتيجة هدفين دون رد في اللقاء الذي جمعهما على ملعب «بي سي بليس» في فانكوفر، ضمن مباريات الدور الـ32.

وقرر «محرز» نهاية مشواره مع «محاربي الصحراء» بعد صافرة نهاية المباراة، جاء ذلك خلال تصريحه لقناة «بي إن سبورتس»، حيث قال: «مواجهة سويسرا كانت آخر لقاء لي مع منتخب بلادي وقدمت كل ما أستطيع والآن جاءت الفرصة لمنح الجيل الشاب للدفاع عن ألوان الوطن».

يذكر أن «رياض محرز» من أبرز نجوم الكرة الجزائرية في العصر الحديث، حيث انضم للمنتخب عام 2014، وأسهم في تتويجه بلقب كأس الأمم الأفريقية 2019 التي أقيمت في مصر، كما شارك في نسختي كأس العالم 2014 و2026.

وخاض قائد الجزائر 119 مباراة دولية، سجل خلالها 40 هدفًا وقدم 44 تمريرة حاسمة، لينهي مسيرته كأحد أكثر اللاعبين تأثيرًا في تاريخ المنتخب الجزائري.

Algerian national team captain Riyad Mahrez, and player of Al Ahli Saudi Club, announced his retirement from international play after his country's exit from the 2026 World Cup, following a loss to the Swiss national team by a score of two goals to none in the match held at "BC Place" in Vancouver, as part of the Round of 32.

Mahrez decided to end his journey with the "Desert Warriors" after the final whistle of the match. This came during his statement to beIN Sports, where he said: "The match against Switzerland was my last game with my national team. I gave everything I could, and now it's time to give the opportunity to the young generation to defend the colors of the nation."

It is worth mentioning that "Riyad Mahrez" is one of the most prominent stars of Algerian football in the modern era, having joined the national team in 2014. He contributed to winning the Africa Cup of Nations title in 2019, which was held in Egypt, and also participated in the 2014 and 2026 World Cup editions.

The captain of Algeria played 119 international matches, scoring 40 goals and providing 44 assists, ending his career as one of the most influential players in the history of the Algerian national team.
