عقد وزير الخارجية الألماني يوهان فاديفول ونظيره الروسي سيرغي لافروف محادثات مباشرة في نيويورك، على هامش أعمال الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة، في أول لقاء ثنائي بين وزيري خارجية البلدين منذ ما قبل اندلاع الحرب الروسية الأوكرانية عام 2022.
وقالت وزارة الخارجية الروسية إن لافروف وفاديفول ناقشا العلاقات الثنائية والحرب في أوكرانيا، في وقت تشهد فيه العلاقات بين موسكو وبرلين توتراً متزايداً.
الحبوب عبر البحر الأسود
وخلال اللقاء، دعا فاديفول روسيا إلى بذل كل ما في وسعها للتوصل إلى اتفاق بشأن صادرات الحبوب عبر البحر الأسود، في ظل تراجع حركة الصادرات الروسية والأوكرانية عبر الممر البحري خلال الأشهر الأخيرة.
ونقلت رويترز عن مصدر في الوفد الألماني أن فاديفول شدد على أهمية التحرك سريعاً في ظل نقص الغذاء الذي تواجهه دول عدة، خصوصاً في دول الجنوب العالمي، مؤكداً ضرورة مشاركة جميع الأطراف بصورة بناءة.
وأضاف الوزير الألماني أن التوصل إلى حل عملي قد يمهد الطريق لاتخاذ خطوات ملموسة أخرى.
تحذير ألماني من التصعيد
ودعا فاديفول موسكو أيضاً إلى التخلي عما وصفه بـ«مسار التصعيد» تجاه ألمانيا وأوروبا وحلف شمال الأطلسي (الناتو).
وأكد أن الحوادث التي تنسبها برلين إلى روسيا والهجمات الهجينة لن تغير موقف ألمانيا الداعم لأوكرانيا.
وتوترت العلاقات بين البلدين بصورة أكبر خلال الأسابيع الأخيرة بعد حادثة طائرات مسيّرة في مطار لايبزيغ/هاله شرقي ألمانيا في أغسطس الماضي، إذ حمّلت الحكومة الألمانية روسيا المسؤولية عن محاولة الهجوم، فيما رفضت السفارة الروسية في برلين الاتهامات ووصفتها بأنها استفزاز مفبرك.
وجاء اللقاء بعد سنوات من تجميد الاتصالات الثنائية على مستوى وزيري الخارجية، رغم مشاركة مسؤولين من البلدين في اجتماعات دولية متعددة خلال تلك الفترة.
The German Foreign Minister Johan Wadephol and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov held direct talks in New York, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, marking the first bilateral meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries since before the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian war in 2022.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Lavrov and Wadephol discussed bilateral relations and the war in Ukraine, at a time when relations between Moscow and Berlin are experiencing increasing tension.
Grains via the Black Sea
During the meeting, Wadephol urged Russia to do everything possible to reach an agreement on grain exports via the Black Sea, amid a decline in Russian and Ukrainian export activity through the maritime corridor in recent months.
Reuters quoted a source in the German delegation as saying that Wadephol emphasized the importance of acting quickly in light of the food shortages faced by several countries, particularly in the Global South, stressing the need for all parties to engage constructively.
The German minister added that reaching a practical solution could pave the way for taking other concrete steps.
German Warning Against Escalation
Wadephol also called on Moscow to abandon what he described as the "escalation path" towards Germany, Europe, and NATO.
He affirmed that the incidents attributed to Russia by Berlin and the hybrid attacks would not change Germany's supportive stance towards Ukraine.
Relations between the two countries have further strained in recent weeks following a drone incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport in eastern Germany last August, where the German government held Russia responsible for the attempted attack, while the Russian embassy in Berlin rejected the accusations and described them as a fabricated provocation.
The meeting came after years of freezing bilateral communications at the level of foreign ministers, despite the participation of officials from both countries in various international meetings during that period.
