تستعد إدارة الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب لإبرام صفقة أسلحة جديدة مع إسرائيل بقيمة نحو 2.8 مليار دولار، تتضمن توريد 40 ألف قنبلة تزن 2000 رطل، في خطوة تعزز القدرات العسكرية الإسرائيلية، رغم المخاوف التي أثيرت سابقاً بشأن استخدام هذا النوع من الأسلحة واحتمالات سقوط أعداد كبيرة من الضحايا المدنيين في قطاع غزة.
وبحسب مسؤولين أمريكيين اثنين وشخص مطلع على الخطة تحدثوا إلى وسائل إعلام أمريكية، (الثلاثاء)، شحنة الأسلحة المقترحة ستتكون من 20 ألف قنبلة من طراز MK-84 و20 ألف قنبلة من طراز BLU-117.
وأكدت المصادر أن الصفقة لم تُحسم بصورة نهائية حتى الآن، فيما أُبلغ أعضاء في الكونغرس الأمريكي بصورة غير رسمية بالاتفاق المرتقب.
ومن المقرر أن يُموَّل الجزء الأكبر من الصفقة من خلال برنامج التمويل العسكري الخارجي الأمريكي، الذي تقدم بموجبه الولايات المتحدة أموالاً لإسرائيل لشراء الأسلحة من الشركات الأمريكية.
استمرار الدعم العسكري لإسرائيل
وتأتي الصفقة المقترحة في إطار سلسلة من الخطوات التي اتخذتها إدارة ترمب لتعزيز القدرات العسكرية الإسرائيلية، في وقت تستمر فيه تداعيات الحرب في غزة، التي أسفرت عن مقتل عشرات الآلاف من الفلسطينيين وتسببت في دمار واسع النطاق بالقطاع، وفق تقارير وبيانات فلسطينية وأممية.
وكانت الولايات المتحدة قد توسطت في اتفاق لوقف إطلاق النار، إلا أن الهدنة الهشة تعرضت لانتهاكات متكررة، بحسب تقارير متعلقة بسير الاتفاق.
وتأتي الصفقة الجديدة أيضاً في ظل تصاعد الضغوط والانتقادات الدولية لإسرائيل بسبب حربها في غزة، التي اندلعت عقب الهجوم الذي شنته حركة حماس على جنوب إسرائيل في 7 أكتوبر 2023.
بايدن أوقف شحنة من القنابل الثقيلة
وكانت إدارة الرئيس الأمريكي السابق جو بايدن قد أوقفت في عام 2024 شحنة من قنابل MK-84 إلى إسرائيل، بسبب مخاوف مرتبطة باحتمالات استخدامها في مناطق مكتظة بالسكان وما قد يترتب على ذلك من سقوط أعداد كبيرة من الضحايا المدنيين.
لكن بعد عودة ترمب إلى البيت الأبيض في عام 2025، رفعت إدارته قرار تعليق إحدى شحنات هذه القنابل، والتي كانت إدارة بايدن قد أوقفتها.
وخلال الأشهر الأولى من الحرب على غزة، كانت إدارة بايدن قد زودت إسرائيل بآلاف القنابل التي يبلغ وزن الواحدة منها 2000 رطل.
وفي العام الماضي، تجاوزت إدارة ترمب إجراءات المراجعة المعتادة في الكونغرس ووافقت على صفقة أسلحة لإسرائيل تقترب قيمتها من 3 مليارات دولار، تضمنت أكثر من 35.5 ألف قنبلة من هذا النوع.
كما وافقت الإدارة الأمريكية في يناير على سلسلة جديدة من صفقات الأسلحة لإسرائيل بقيمة إجمالية بلغت نحو 6.67 مليار دولار.
قنابل قادرة على إحداث دمار واسع
وتوجد عدة نسخ من القنابل التي تزن 2000 رطل، إذ صُممت بعض أنواعها لاختراق أهداف عميقة أو منشآت تحت الأرض، بينما تنفجر أنواع أخرى فوق سطح الأرض وتتسبب في نطاق واسع من الأضرار.
وبحسب تقارير إعلامية وتحليلات لخبراء، استُخدمت القنابل الأمريكية الصنع على نطاق واسع في ضربات مميتة داخل غزة ولبنان.
وكانت صحيفة «نيويورك تايمز» قد ذكرت في أواخر عام 2023 أن الجيش الإسرائيلي استخدم بصورة متكررة قنابل MK-84 في مناطق من غزة كان قد حددها باعتبارها مناطق آمنة للمدنيين.
ونقلت صحيفة «واشنطن بوست» عن تريفور بول، وهو فني سابق في الجيش الأمريكي مختص بالتخلص من الذخائر المتفجرة ويدرس صور الأضرار التي تلحق بالمدنيين جراء الأسلحة الأمريكية، قوله إن الجيش الإسرائيلي يستخدم قنابل MK-84 لتدمير مبانٍ بأكملها أثناء استهداف مسلحين يُشتبه في وجودهم داخلها.
جدل حول استخدام الأسلحة الأمريكية في غزة
ورغم أن الجيش الإسرائيلي لم يقدم تفاصيل واسعة بشأن أنواع القنابل والمدفعية التي استخدمها خلال العمليات العسكرية في غزة، فإن خبراء قاموا بتحليل تسجيلات للضربات وبقايا المتفجرات في مواقع الاستهداف، وخلصوا إلى أن أسلحة أمريكية الصنع استُخدمت في عدد من الهجمات.
وبحسب هذه التحليلات، استهدفت بعض الضربات شبكة أنفاق يُعتقد أن حركة حماس تستخدمها، إلا أن العمليات أدت أيضاً إلى سقوط ضحايا في مناطق مكتظة بالسكان.
وتثير القنابل الثقيلة، ولا سيما قنابل MK-84 التي يبلغ وزنها نحو طن، جدلاً واسعاً بسبب قدرتها التدميرية الكبيرة، خصوصاً عند استخدامها في المناطق الحضرية والمأهولة بالسكان.
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is preparing to finalize a new arms deal with Israel worth approximately $2.8 billion, which includes the supply of 40,000 bombs weighing 2,000 pounds, in a move that enhances Israeli military capabilities, despite previously raised concerns about the use of such weapons and the potential for high civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip.
According to two U.S. officials and a person familiar with the plan who spoke to U.S. media on Tuesday, the proposed arms shipment will consist of 20,000 MK-84 bombs and 20,000 BLU-117 bombs.
The sources confirmed that the deal has not been finalized yet, while members of the U.S. Congress have been informally briefed about the anticipated agreement.
The majority of the deal is expected to be funded through the U.S. Foreign Military Financing program, under which the United States provides funds to Israel to purchase weapons from American companies.
Continued Military Support for Israel
The proposed deal comes as part of a series of steps taken by the Trump administration to enhance Israeli military capabilities, at a time when the repercussions of the war in Gaza continue, which has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians and caused widespread destruction in the region, according to Palestinian and international reports and data.
The United States had mediated a ceasefire agreement, but the fragile truce has been subject to repeated violations, according to reports regarding the status of the agreement.
The new deal also comes amid rising international pressure and criticism of Israel due to its war in Gaza, which erupted following the attack launched by Hamas on southern Israel on October 7, 2023.
Biden Halted Shipment of Heavy Bombs
The administration of former President Joe Biden had halted a shipment of MK-84 bombs to Israel in 2024 due to concerns related to the potential use of these bombs in densely populated areas and the resulting high civilian casualties.
However, after Trump returned to the White House in 2025, his administration lifted the suspension on one of the shipments of these bombs that the Biden administration had halted.
During the early months of the war on Gaza, the Biden administration had supplied Israel with thousands of bombs weighing 2,000 pounds each.
Last year, the Trump administration bypassed the usual congressional review procedures and approved an arms deal for Israel worth nearly $3 billion, which included over 35,500 bombs of this type.
The U.S. administration also approved a new series of arms deals for Israel in January, with a total value of approximately $6.67 billion.
Bombs Capable of Causing Widespread Destruction
There are several variants of the 2,000-pound bombs, with some types designed to penetrate deep targets or underground facilities, while others explode above ground and cause a wide range of damage.
According to media reports and analyses by experts, American-made bombs have been widely used in lethal strikes within Gaza and Lebanon.
The New York Times reported in late 2023 that the Israeli military had repeatedly used MK-84 bombs in areas of Gaza that it had designated as safe zones for civilians.
The Washington Post quoted Trevor Paul, a former U.S. Army technician specializing in explosive ordnance disposal who studies images of damage inflicted on civilians by American weapons, stating that the Israeli military uses MK-84 bombs to destroy entire buildings while targeting suspected militants believed to be inside.
Controversy Over the Use of American Weapons in Gaza
Although the Israeli military has not provided extensive details about the types of bombs and artillery used during military operations in Gaza, experts who analyzed recordings of the strikes and remnants of explosives at target sites concluded that American-made weapons were used in several attacks.
According to these analyses, some strikes targeted a network of tunnels believed to be used by Hamas, but the operations also resulted in casualties in densely populated areas.
Heavy bombs, particularly the MK-84 bombs weighing around a ton, provoke widespread controversy due to their significant destructive capability, especially when used in urban and populated areas.
