Novartis today announced that it has received approval for a new indication for Kisqali, Kisqali is a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor (CKDi) indicated as adjuvant treatment of patients with hormone receptor (HR)-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2)-negative stage II and III early breast cancer, in combination with an aromatase inhibitor.1
This approval marks a significant advancement in the national fight against breast cancer, which accounts for approximately 37% of all female cancer cases in Egypt and is a leading cause of cancer mortality among Egyptian women according to WHO Globocan 2024.2

HR+/HER2− is the most common subtype of breast cancer globally.4
Egypt has one of the highest incidence rates in the World Health Organization (WHO) Eastern Mediterranean Region, with 55.4 cases per 100,000 women in 2022 reports.5
A unique challenge is the high proportion of younger women affected; studies indicate that 57% of Egyptian breast cancer patients are premenopausal, with a mean age at diagnosis of just 50.5 years.3

Novartis is working with relevant authorities to support access for eligible patients in accordance with applicable regulatory and healthcare system processes. The company also supports healthcare professionals through educational initiatives and resources designed to optimize treatment outcomes and adherence.

This aligns with the priorities of Egypt Vision 2030 and the broader national effort to strengthen oncology care. The company’s efforts complement the government’s Presidential Initiative for Women’s Health, which has provided screening and awareness services to over 70 million women since its launch in 2019, detecting and registering more than 35,390 breast cancer cases.6

Partnerships which support the continuous education of healthcare professionals, healthcare system strengthening, and the increase of awareness around breast cancer, continue to be a priority for Novartis Egypt. Through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Egyptian Healthcare Authority signed in 2025, Novartis Egypt and the Authority agreed to enhance physicians’ capabilities, strengthen early diagnosis and treatment mechanisms in line with international healthcare standards, and develop an online platform to help doctors coordinate breast cancer treatment plans.7
In addition, Novartis sponsored the Hekaya Wardy awareness campaign to promote early detection and address cultural taboos around breast cancer.8
